Handspun yarn can come in whatever thickness or fiber or color you desire. Because you can customize yarn to exactly what you want, the possibilities are endless.

Yarns have traditionally been sold in terms of "fingering", "sport" and "worsted" weights. Instead, I will ask you for the knitting needle or crochet hook size you are planning to use. Weavers, tell me how many ends per inch you are planning. This gives me a better sense of what you need.

Incidentally, I have heard a comment from several places (including a well–known art school), that handspun yarn isn't strong enough to be used as warp for weaving! A friend of mine has a favorite expression that fits; "That's a bunch of hooey!" I've never had a handspun warp thread break! Handspun can be done as tightly as you need for warp or as lofty as you could ever imagine for weft. The natural dyes work wonderfully for hand–painted warps, as well as for solids or variegated blends. So, weavers, your possibilities, too, are endless!

Any yarn can be done in any color—even those not shown! If you wish to try some, samples of enough yarn to knit a 4 inch square are available for US$5.00 in medium/bulky weight yarns, and US$10/hr for fine and superfine weight yarns.

Sparkle Sock Yarns    NEW

Handspun, hand-dyed yarn specially for socks! 

I have blended 85% wool, dyed with natural dyes, with 15% nylon for a variegated effect, and mylar for sparkle! Each skein is about 300 yards -- enough for a pair of socks using most sock patterns. I also have patterns for Basic Socks and Lace Socks. To see these click here.
